Media Statement
For Immediate Release

We find that an opportunity for the Home Minister to uphold the spirit of the Federal Constitution to allow the current Opposition Leader to attend the opening of the next Parliamentary sitting has been denied by the Prison Department under him.

We ask instead that the Prime Minister showcase leadership to demonstrate that his government understands the difference between a letter of support from the Home Minister to a foreign government in an alleged international gambling king pin court case; and such errors of judgment must not be seen to be condoned and supercede the constitutional process related to the right of a Member of Parliament of Permatang Pauh. The two cases present contrasting levels of threats to our national security.

Additionally, the government denies the claim of political persecution. However, the denial of Datuk Seri Anwar’s right to attend Parliament demonstrates exactly the opposite of such a claim.

If the Prime Minister abstains from his constitutional duty, we will not follow suit. Rest assured, the Opposition Leaders’ speech will be heard in Parliament.
