IPOH, 9 February 2009: PKR defacto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes to meet Karpal Singh over the latter’s comment that he stepped down from leading Pakatan Rakyat.
Anwar said that what the DAP chairman had stated was his personal opinion and it would not lead to the DAP leaving the coalition.
He said Karpal Singh’s grouse arose from two issues – his (Karpal Singh’s) intended suit against the Sultan of Perak over the appointment of a new Perak Mentri Besar and the two Perak PKR assemblymen becoming Independents.
“On the crossovers, I’ve already explained that I did not buy (them) over, I don’t threaten, I only openly invited them to come on board,” he told reporters after speaking at a rally in support of former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
On the lawsuit, he said: “We do not want to create an impression that we are against the royal institution. There are differences of opinion and we are looking into it and I am prepared to meet Karpal Singh to discuss the issue.”
