(Saturday, 24 January 2009) Many residents of Pantai Panorama Condomnium had alerted us on the precarious slope behind Panorama condominium in Pantai Dalam.
The issue at hand was further development that was and will be taking place on and near the slope by mainly two developers – Janavista sdn bhd and even YTL in the near future.
A history of correspondence between the Resident Associations and Janavista established a few things:
1. The urgent need for Janavista to complete ALL slope stabilization work, including maintenance of proper drainage of the area -to avoid flooding in the low cost flats in Kerinchi (just below them) during heavy downpour. The developer and DBKL concur with this finding, and the next dateline set is 4th of February, discounting CNY holidays due to the dangerous nature of the slope and the long duration of uncompleted stabilization works.
2. I was therefore pleased to note that JKR and JKA (DBKL) responding positively for a joint visit to the site developed by Janavista on Saturday. Unfortunately, Janavista -thedevelopers of the housing project behind Panorama Condo could not join us despite an early invitation.
3. This no show by the developers aggravates the current perception by the locals that the developers aren’t being very cooperative or concerned with the wellbeing of their neighbors. Nonetheless, I hope in the coming days, we’ll be seeing Janavista in action to fulfill their DBKL-set deadline. If not, we will surely pressure the local authorities to take an immediate action to avoid the sense of impunity amongst developers.
I would like us to remember the tragedy in Bukit Antarabangsa, and do our bit to ensure responsible development takes place all over Malaysia.
Specially to residents of Pantai Panorama: Keep your chin up and Have a Prosperous Chinese New Year!
