Program Overview
The Permatang Pauh Women’s Project is about giving agency back to our women. Our project equips women with the technical skills and entrepreneurial know-how to pursue an empowered career in their vocations of choice. The explicit aims of the project are:
- To provide employment opportunities, financial stability, and job security to local Permatang Pauh women.
- To provide a platform for women to expand their entrepreneurial skills through additional programs and collaborations.
- To raise the stature of the local sewing, arts and crafts and post-natal care industries.
Through this project, we aim to foster the spirit of independence of the individuals within this income-deprived social group. The overarching theme of this endeavour is to encourage participants to make a meaningful contribution to their own lives and also the local industry.
Evidence-based project
Investing in women’s economic empowerment and skills development is one of the most urgent and effective means to drive progress on gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth.
To quote the United Nations Population Fund, “the empowerment and autonomy of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic and health status is essential for the achievement of sustainable development”.
With PPWP, we are answering this clarion call to upskill and empower our local women. PPWP provides a platform for the women of Permatang Pauh to learn new skills, be mentored, upgrade their marketability and business know-how and be connected with a network of women who support each other on their journey towards bettering the lives of themselves and their families.
